A prospective study about health economy in 80 patients with stable zygomatic fractures, was conducted. The cases were distributed at random into two similar groups: one composed of those who recived an ambulatory treatment, and the other consisting of the hospitalized at the Maxillofacial Department of the "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Teaching Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba from April-to September, 1994. The cost of a patient undergoing ambulatory surgery was of 22,85, whereas the cost of the patient treated at the hospital was of 222,33, which represents a saving of 199,48. Some of the decisive factors in this aspect are the indicators of hospitalization and surgical unit in the group admitted. The latter was statistically remarkable.Downloads
