Abstract

An analysis was carried out during a five-year period in 66 patients with infections of odontogenic origin. Among the most relevant results is that multispace and single space infections occurred with equal distribution, more frequently in the buccal and submandibular spaces. Male patients were affected by the infections of a single space 2 times more than those with multispace infections, among which there was a similar distribution in both sexes, while the most common age range in all cases was that of 25 to 34 years old. The highest frequency of isolated pathogens corresponded to streptococci a and ß hemolytic and Bacteroides. The third molars were the prevalent cause that motivated the admission in both infections.
