Abstract

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the pandemic of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) have penetrated into their second decade. AIDS, is the term used to indicate the terminal phase of HIV infection as defined by the 27 conditions and diseases of AIDS that serve as indicators. It is estimated that more than one million, possibly 1.5 million Americans are infected with HIV. More than 500,000 Americans who present definitions of AIDS have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CCPE-CDC), a national entity dedicated to this activity. There is no indicator of significant control of the disease due to the fact that every week about 1 4000 new AIDS cases are reported in the country.
