Abstract

A study on the main risk factors associated with the appearance of malignant and premalignant oral lesions in our health area was conducted aimed at directing our preventive work and at educating our population. It was found that 67.7 % of the surveyed patients presented some risk factor associated with the appearance of these lesions and 4.8 % had some type of lesion. Males were the most affected and the denture wearing and the smoking habit were the most frequent risk factors. Leucoplakia was the most common lesion, accounting for 36.7 %. The cheek mucosa and the lower lip were the most frequent localizations.
