Study on maxillofacial malignancies

Abstract

An analysis was carried out during the triennium 1994-1996 and the malignant tumors of the maxillofacial region treated in the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of Artemisa were studied. The male sex was more affected than the female, the skin tumors were the most frequent, affected in a high percentage white skin patients, and basal cell carcinoma was the most observed histological type. Regarding the most frequent location in the oral cavity was the lower lip, and the histological type that most prevailed was squamous cell carcinoma. 3% of all the tumors found corresponded with metastasis, which debuted in the orofacial zone.
