On the road to excellence
Abstract
The National Information Center of Medical Sciences has among its encomiendas the promotion of quality scientific publication in the field of health in Cuba, and that is why the quality of the editorial process is of great importance for a journal and its editorial committee, an aspect that was reflected in the II Workshop of Referees of the Cuban Journal of Stomatology, held at the Casa Novartis, located on A corner street 21, in the capital Vedado. The opening words were given by the Doctor of Science Estela Gispert Abreu, who referred to the previous event held in 2014, at CeNaEst, and presented the program to be developed in this Workshop. Then Dr. Máster, Josefa Miranda Tarragó, and Chief Editor of the magazine, explained that the work of this depends, mainly on the referees, who with their altruism make our publication occupy a top place among Cuban medical science magazines.
The first conference entitled "State of arbitration in the Cuban Journal of Stomatology" was given by Dr. Agustín Rodríguez Soto, who presented the results obtained in the evaluation to the reviewers carried out in the first workshop through matching tables by referees. , which revealed strengths and weaknesses present in the arbitration. It was also expressed that the degree of correspondence between the reviewers was acceptable. This confirms the high appreciation that the editors show for the comments of the reviewers. Dr. Héctor Bayarre's intervention was very timely, and he expressed that, to the extent that the guidelines for arbitration are standardized, the quality of the process will improve, and that high-impact journals should be reviewed and the types of research should be seen. to get to request articles by commissions to experts in different topics; He also referred to the need to continue working on the weaknesses found.
Then, professors Josefa Miranda Tarragó (Master) and Alain Chaple Gil (Master) made a brief explanation about the improvement of the content and presentation of the guides (review form). In group work they proceeded to distribute the guides of the different modalities of presentation of articles in the Journal in order to assess the content of these, and empty the results in a delivered document. In the end, they collected all the forms distributed to establish by consensus the new guidelines for reviewing scientific articles, with the aim of raising the quality of the arbitration process.
