Abstract

A prospective and comparative study was conducted on the possibility of using prophylactic antibiotics in 100 patients with facial fractures, operated on electively. The prevalence rate of infection was 15%, with a slight predominance of the control group. The highest infection rate was obtained in potentially contaminated and clean wounds with general infection rates of 9.7 and 4.8%, respectively, which fall within international parameters. Also highlighted are the infection rates presented by the combined access route and the zygomatic fractures.
