Abstract

The effectiveness of propolis to irrigate surgically treated zones in patients with different buccal affections, is studied. In buccal ulcers, the decrease of pain and the cicatrization were faster than in the group in which Shostakovski balsam was applied. It is concluded that the antimicrobial, hemostatic, and antiinflammatory properties of propolis, favoured a faster and better tissue recovery in the postoperatory of patients surgically treated, than in the control group patients. Likewise, when comparing the outcomes in both groups, a quicker regression of painful symptoms, and an improved healing of the ulcers, were achieved.
