Abstract

A prospective and comparative study was conducted in order to establish the possible relationship between the postoperative evolution of 100 patients with maxillofacial fractures, electively operated and in whom prophylactic antibiotic was used or not, and a series of factors inherent to hospitalization. and operation. It was demonstrated that the average preoperative stay of 7.7 days and a surgical time of more than 2 hours and 30 minutes in patients operated between the third and fourth surgical shifts, with the participation of more than 9 people in the operating room and a stay Postoperative period greater than 10 days, increase the possibility of infections in surgical wounds of the maxillofacial complex.
