Effects of CO2 laser radiation on dental enamel
Keywords:

In recent years, special attention has been devoted to studying the interaction of laser radiation with different types of human tissue. Theoretical and experimental evaluations carried out on the interaction of CO2 laser radiation with dental enamel are reported, which are the first results obtained in our country in this direction. The study was conducted in vitro, irradiating healthy bicuspids with energy densities between 5 and 14 J / cm2, with pulses lasting 1 ms and with a continuous regimen. Changes in the surface of the enamel were determined by electron microscopy and, through the Vikeps technique, the changes produced in the microhardness. In the range of energy densities used, a decrease in the porosity of the enamel was obtained, caused by the fusion of the tissue, without appreciably increasing the temperature in the pulp chamber. The experiments carried out with continuous laser showed that no useful results are obtained.Downloads
