Abstract

The monitoring and evaluation of the oral health status of the population is a method of observation and control that allows early detection of diseases or damage to health, which allows decisions to be made to prevent or interrupt the onset of diseases. The objectives that are intimately related to those of the National Program of Integral Stomatological Attention to the Population are indicated. The stages of the method are defined, as well as the classification according to population groups, based on the oral health status of the people examined and the procedures with each group. The preventive measures, sanitary measures and the risk factors of some diseases and population groups are based. The effectiveness and efficiency indicators of the method are also described.
