The prosthetic rehabilitations and its risk factor quality in the appearance of buccal mucosa lesions
Keywords:
Stomatologic prostheses, buccal mucosa, lesions, poor qualityAbstract
Buccal mucosa lesions are a significant health problem. There are different riskfactors favoring its appearance, e.g. quality of prostheses. We made a
observational, analytical, longitudinal and retrospective study of case and control
between September 2006 and January 2008 in Stomatology Faculty of Havana City,
to identify prosthesis quality as risk factor in appearance of buccal mucosa lesions.
We evidenced that in case-group, the 77, 4% used prosthesis of a poor quality, and
that 85, 8% of control used prosthesis of a good quality. We conclude that
prosthesis quality was a risk factor in appearance of buccal mucosa lesions. The
more frequent buccal lesions associated with use of stomatologic prosthesis were
the sub-prosthesis stomatitis and commissural cheilosis.
