Abstract

The surgical removal of the retained third molars is the most common surgery performed by
maxillofacial surgeons, even in a prophylactic way, and it is associated with trans- and
postoperative complications. A case with displacement of a fragment of the left lower third
molar towards the parapharyngeal space during its surgical exeresis is presented. It is a rare
case due to its frequency and to the treatment used in this complication, since a few cases have
been reported in international literature and none in our country.
