Abstract

A bibliographic review of the history and antecedents of the consumption of Catha edulis, Khat
(Chat in Amaric) in Ethiopia (Erithrea today), a botanical and pharmacological analysis of its
chemical components and of its effects on the human body, from the pharmacological,
medicolegal and social point of view, are made.
