Causes of rejection of total prostheses in the older adult

A study was conducted to identify the causes of rejection of total prostheses inpatients from the family physician's offices of "Guillermón Moncada" People's
Council of "Carlos J. Finlay" Teaching Polyclinic, in Santiago de Cuba municipality,
from January to December, 2004. The study group was made up of 152 aged
individuals of both sexes who underwent an intraoral physical examination. Surveys were done to make easy the obtention of results. It was observed a higher rejection
of prostheses in females aged 65-69 by maladjustment, inadequate states and
functional deficiencies. Therefore, it was recommended to extend the investigation
to all the family physician's offices and to solve the problem to attain a better
quality of life in the elderly.
