New approach to the interpretation of pain in an acute pulpitis
Abstract
Pain is probably the main reason for consultation in stomatological emergencies and it is precisely the pain of acute pulpitis that we discuss in this paper. Pulpal pain in itself is similar to pain resulting from inflammation of the visceral organs and, therefore, attempts to explain them by comparison with nociceptors of somatic structures may be inadequate. It is proposed to analyze the behavior of pain as a consequence of an acute pulpitis, with a new approach, assimilating it as pain coming from visceral structures with painful manifestations far from the damaged site or area and in the own tooth in which the tissue has been injured and evolves quickly towards necrosis. We establish an analogy between visceral pain as that generated by the pulp and deep somatic type as the one corresponding to the periapical affectation by rapid evolution of the inflammation towards the necrosis.Downloads
