Abstract

A bibliographic review was made on the autotransplant and the dental homotransplant with the objective of updating the fundamental aspects on this subject. The essential factors for the success of these are highlighted, such as: postoperative revascularization, reinsertion of the ligament to bone and cement, and the importance of the integrity of the periodontal ligament. We analyzed the indications and contraindications of dental transplants, as well as the surgical technique, among other aspects. It is concluded that the teeth to be transplanted must have at least the cervical third of their root, the transplanted teeth have to be fixed in infraocclusion for 4 to 6 weeks and the trauma to the follicular sac and the periodontal tissues of the tooth interfere in the evolution of transplants.
