Cystic lesions associated with retained third molars that required hospitalization

Abstract

A retrospective and descriptive investigation of 18 hospitalized patients who received surgical treatment due to cystic lesions associated with a retained third molar was performed, with the objective of evaluating these lesions during the period 1985-1994. Of the 18 patients, 13 were male, the mean age was 33.7 years, 12 patients (66.7%) were diagnosed by radiological examinations. The mean length of the lesion was 39.8 mm, 3 patients presented clinical signs of infection at admission. The average length of the lesion was 39.8 mm. All cysts were treated surgically with an infection rate of 11.1%.
