Abstract

Some aspects related to the epidemiological surveillance of the oral health status of the general population are exposed, with methodological purposes. The objectives and premises for setting up the surveillance system are outlined, as well as the characterization of the community based on the fundamental elements for a surveillance system. The aim is to evaluate the cost and quality of oral health care in order to achieve efficient use of resources. Investigations related to the surveillance system will be carried out. Sources, frequency and information channels are established. The surveillance system is structured at the level of primary oral health care. The diseases or events to be monitored are determined, as well as the data related to the population groups, oral diseases and hygienic-sanitary control.
