Bone graft of the maxillary sinus in the repair of specific craniofacial defects
Abstract
A retrospective study was carried out on 56 patients with specific anatomical defects of the craniofacial complex, in which reconstructive procedures with autogenous bone graft of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus were used in the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Hospital of Santiago. of Cuba, from 1986 to 1994. This type of graft proved to be safe in the repair of fractures of the orbital floor with a maximum extension of 2 x 3 cm, as well as in the circumscribed deficiencies of the facial contour in areas such as: frontal, pyramid nasal, zygomatic body, maxillary zygomatic support, mandibular body, superior or inferior orbital rim. Postoperative morbidity was minimal and the access route avoids the incision and external scar and prevents complications such as pneumothorax, perforation of the dura and difficulty in ambulation, sometimes present in traditional donor areas.Downloads
