Abstract

Introduction: Bruxism is an extremely upsetting disorder of the stomatognathic system affecting the quality of life of its sufferers. Stress may act as a trigger for this condition.

Objective: Determine the vulnerability and stress levels of patients with bruxism.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study was conducted of 94 patients diagnosed with bruxism attending Manuel Cedeño Dental Specialties University Clinic from November 2017 to May 2018. The variables considered were vulnerability to stress and stress level.

Results: Characterization of the study population found that 55.31 % were female and the largest age group corresponded to the 15-30 years bracket (42.55 %). Results revealed that patients with bruxism are seriously vulnerable to stress (53.19 %), stress limits being exceeded in 45.74 % of the cases.
